Petrocom Construction Joins BGIS: A Strategic Step Forward
Petrocom Construction is proud to announce that effective immediately, the company has been acquired by BGIS Global Integrated Solutions Canada LP (BGIS). This strategic partnership marks an important milestone in Petrocom’s growth and positions the company for continued expansion, enhanced capabilities, and long-term success across Canada.
Founded in 2005, Petrocom Construction has spent the past 20 years building a strong reputation as a trusted general contractor across Western Canada. From our earliest small projects to long-standing partnerships with leading energy and retail clients, Petrocom’s growth has been guided by a commitment to expertise, integrity, safety, and strong relationships. Those values remain firmly in place today.
BGIS, founded in 1994, is a multi-billion-dollar global leader in facility management, project delivery, design/build construction, and real estate services. The company supports more than 40,000 facilities worldwide, representing over 600 million square feet under management. BGIS serves clients across a wide range of sectors, including oil and gas, healthcare, education, government, logistics, distributed retail, data centers, hospitality, and financial services.
This acquisition is rooted in a strong alignment of values and vision. Like Petrocom, BGIS places a high priority on fostering a culture where people feel valued and supported, enabling teams to deliver consistent, high-quality service. This acquisition does not change who Petrocom is or how we operate. Petrocom’s name, leadership, team, and client-first approach remain unchanged, and the same commitment to quality, safety, and reliability will continue to guide our business.
The acquisition is intended to strengthen and expand Petrocom’s general contracting services for both existing and new clients. By combining our regional expertise and proven delivery model with BGIS’s scale, resources, and national presence, the organization is creating opportunities for sustained growth, continuous workflow in strategic regions, and deeper collaboration on client programs and service offerings. Clients can expect the same high standards of execution, now supported by broader capabilities and an expanded network.
Today, Petrocom is supported by a dedicated team of more than 50 employees and long-standing client relationships across Western Canada. This next chapter builds on that foundation, providing additional strength, stability, and opportunity for employees, clients, and partners alike.
Petrocom is confident that this partnership with BGIS will deliver increased value for all stakeholders and support continued growth well into the future. With expanded resources, shared expertise, and a unified commitment to excellence, Petrocom has never been better positioned to thrive.
Petrocom was founded in 2005 by Matt Gifford, Wade Duiker, and Gerrit DeHaan, who shared a vision of building a company driven by expertise, integrity, and a commitment to excellence. They started with a phased approach – setting up a small office, hiring an accountant, and gradually adding field staff. Six months in, Rob Braund joined the leadership team when Petrocom secured a large project with one of his clients. Within those first six months, Petrocom grew from a four-person team to a thriving workforce of 30.
The company’s first-ever project was Hughes Petroleum on Roper Road. From there, Hughes Petroleum became Petrocom’s primary client, providing the majority of our work and revenue. Over time, as the company’s reach expanded, Petrocom formed partnerships with major industry players such as 7-Eleven, Imperial Oil, Husky Oil, and Petro Canada. This growth allowed us to expand operations into British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
A pivotal moment came in 2007 when Gerrit’s industry connections led to an alliance deal with Shell Canada. This partnership solidified Petrocom Construction as a trusted General Contractor, handling all of Shell’s work in Western Canada for several years.
Of course, success did not come without challenges. As a small and newly established company, Petrocom faced tough competition from larger, more established contractors. The team spent a year developing a high-level safety program and gaining the experience necessary to compete for major clients. However, the industry relationships the company’s founders had built over the years helped open the doors – clients who were familiar with their expertise and work ethic never hesitated to give them a chance.
As more work was secured, Petrocom also built strong relationships with several subtrades, earning a reputation for transparency, fairness, and honesty. Many of those early partners remain loyal to the company today, a testament to the unwavering values that have defined Petrocom from the beginning.
Reflecting on the past 20 years, we take great pride in how far we’ve come. With a dedicated team of over 40 employees, long-standing clients, and an impressive portfolio of projects across Western Canada, we remain true to the values that started it all. Every day, we are grateful for the work we do and the relationships we’ve built, and we look forward to another 20 years of growth, innovation, and excellence in the industry.
